There are 3 Types of Office Licenses: 1. The Product Key Card (PKC) 2. A Retail Boxed Product (also referred to as a full packaged product, or FPP) 3. Volume License Agreement. Depending on which of these 3 channels you purchased Office 2010 licenses from, your right and responsibilities change under the agreement you accept when you install the product. The PKC comes in 3 edtions. Office Home & Student, Office Home & Businessj, and Office Professional. When you purchase a product key card, what you receive is a package, with a credit card sized piece of card board that has aa 25 character code on it. What that code will do is allow you to convert any existing trial, or a pre-installed version of Office into a fully-functional version of Microsoft Office 2010. Although the PKCs are somewhat cheaper that say the retail and volume licenses, there are some major things to note about your rights when purchasing this product. First, the PKC License is very similar to the OEM license agreements, where the end user is NOT allowed any transfer rights of that software to another computer. Even if you own that new computer.
