I have used & been utterly fascinated with this genre of software {"note-taker," "organizer," "outliner," "free-form database," "personal information manager"} for decades. I well remember using the earliest versions of "Tornado Notes" & askSam--both of which were wonderful in their time; I've upgraded both of those apps over the years & have tested NUMEROUS other competing programs--including MyInfo, Ultra Recall, Info Select, TreePad, & WhizFolders.

I was previously a long-timer user of OneNote 2007. An otherwise glorious evolution stunted by new OneNote search - George H. Reme -
To Whom it May Interest,

I am a dyed-in-the-wool proponent of OneNote thanks to its second iteration, 2007. While 2003 gave a tantalizing (and frustrating!) glimpse of what could be, 2007 delivered in most every way: functionality, stability, usability, and so on. I can attest that it is the best consumer program for indexing content I've ever come across. People, particularly students and others who need to accumulate and organize information, are disserving themselves and their projects by not using it.

Having used the beta for several months, I was gearing up to write a gushing endorsement of 2010. While it was nothing near the gargantuan leap between 2003 and 2007, it didn't need to be. I appreciated them refining just a few key features in my favorite program, including:

(1) adding the ability to insert infinite sub-tabs in any given section
(2) vastly improving the reception of files printed to OneNote--now you can choose exactly where you want each file to go
(3) allowing greater ease in choosing where your notebook is stored
(4) improving synchronizing capabilities. I haven't been able to test this fully yet, but everything I've read suggests that they honed what was already a formidable list of ways to keep your files synced.

Once OneNote 2010 was released, I fully intended on buying it and nothing else. Unfortunately, for students MS only discounted the Office suite and not individual programs (right now I could buy the whole suite for less than it would cost to buy the cheapest version of OneNote. That'll eventually change; I suggest you hold out if you can). So, I contented myself with recently installing the fully-featured trial copy.

Much to my chagrin, it was just yesterday that I also discovered a grave misstep! From my admittedly anecdotal experimenting with searching the same documents in 2007 and 2010, I have discovered that 2010 is not nearly as good at indexing images as its predecessor. Never mind that the search function itself is now less user friendly--in the past, you could scroll through search results (across sections or even notebooks) rapid-fire by hitting the "enter" key much like you would do on a browser. Now doing so only causes confusion (I think it takes you to the Recycle Bin instead)! Instead, you are supposed to enter the term you are looking for, and choose from the list that develops immediately beneath it. But I could live with this, if 2010 improved upon or maintained the quality of the searches. No such luck.

This is a serious problem that I hope is not permanently baked into 2010. In the tutorial pages for 2007, they boasted about being able to query any term and find it--whether it be handwritten, text embedded in an image, or even SPOKEN WORD recorded (e.g. said in a lecture). Images in text seem like the easiest of the three to index, yet 2010 trips over itself to do so.

2007 was revelatory. Were it not for this problem, I would heartily endorse 2010 as a worthwhile refinement of a truly great program. With this lapse in a key feature (at least for how I use OneNote), I am given pause. How could they get this wrong?

I waited until today to put up the review, because I was hoping that somehow the images would get indexed overnight and my complaint would be moot. Alas, not so! I am interested, however, in having this independently verified. For any owners of 2007 reading this, please try your own experiment. I imported the scanned page of a book into both, and then searched for one of the words that was warped by the binding. 2007 found it (of course!), while 2010 failed to find even the boldfaced TITLE!

In all office applications there is a modified ribbon interface present which includes One Note, Project, Vision, publisher and Outlook. In windows 7, office applications have functional jump lists which allows the user to access the relevant tasks and recent items to the applications.

Social connector is a new feature in Microsoft office 2010. This enables the user write e-mails keeping in track of their friends, family and colleagues by viewing past communication history and status updates. When the users view their emails a name, title and a picture is available for the person they are contacting. The social connector cannot work on office 64 bit, Microsoft suggests to use 32 bit products. Sync feature also does not work on x64 bit of office 2010.

Resolving "Access to Source Database Failed With Jet Error" in Exchange Server

Microsoft Exchange Server is a reliable and advanced solution to create a collaborative and messaging environment. It stores all the user mailboxes in Microsoft Exchange database (EDB file), which can be accessed using Microsoft Outlook Email client. You should regularly backup EDB file to prevent any sort of data loss situations, if database is damaged. However, under some circumstances, Exchange Database Server can not be accessed after restoring from a backup. The database restores properly, but you encounter errors while trying to access it. This behavior leads to critical data loss and needs Exchange Server Recovery to be sorted out.

For instance, you may come across any of the following behaviors after restoring the Exchange Server database from current backup:

1. You manage to restore the EDB file, but it single. There is no catalog data or transaction log file.

2. The Eseutil /p utility runs successfully on corrupt database, but it cannot be accessed.

3. You cannot check the state of your Exchange Server database using Eseutil /mh utility.

4. You get the following errors while checking the state of restored database:

a) Initiating FILE DUMP mode...

Error: Access to source database 'c:mailbox database.edb' failed with Jet error -1022.

b) Operation terminated with error -1022 (JET_errDiskIO, Disk IO error) after 0.203 seconds.

When this behavior occurs, Exchange Server database becomes totally unusable and inaccessible. You encounter same behavior every time you try to open the database. In order to gain access of your valuable data, you need to figure out the root of this issue and perform Microsoft Exchange recovery by fixing it.

Cause

This behavior occurs due to missing log files or corrupt backup file. In both the cases, Exchange Server cannot access the source database and you face this issue.

Resolution

You can try resolving this problem using Eseutil /p command line tool or by restoring the database again from backup. If possible, move unaffected files from problem database to new database.

If the above method does not work, you need to repair and restore corrupt Exchange Server database using advanced and powerful third-party applications, known as Exchange recovery software.

The Exchange Recovery tool is competent enough to systematically scan whole database and extract all inaccessible data from it. They come equipped with rich and interactive user interface to offer easy edb recovery from corrupted or damaged Exchange Server.

4. Don't use unnecessary animations.
Even more annoying than unclear pictures are stupid animation. Animations can be great if they illustrate something. You can use movies and animations that have a real point, any other animation is not decorating the slide, but distracting and irritating.

5. Put titles on each slide.

I use Access mostly for class work, but the 2010 version is so much more user friendly that I'm starting to use it regularly to help create database apps, use it for home organization, etc. In an IT/Database Management class I took (upper division college course) we had older students (50+) who were trying to move up still in their careers and even though they still weren't comfortable with some computer elements such as open-source software, the 2010 Access was user-friendly enough that they could use it. Overall I find it very user friendly and really like the formatting.

What About the Word, Elohim?

Most occurrences of the word God in the Old Testament are translated from the Hebrew word Elohim, which is plural in form. However, this word does not signify a plurality of Persons, because it is used with a singular verb. Also, it was applied to individual pagan gods, to the golden calf, and to Jesus Christ, which none of whom was a trinity. The use of the plural form of a noun is a characteristic way to express greatness or majesty in the Hebrew language.

Whenever Elohim refers to the one true God, it is always connected with by singular verbs, even though this word is plural. Yet, on the other hand, whenever it refers to more than one false god, it is accompanied by plural verbs. This is important to note that grammatically speaking, this word is referring to the one true God only, although the word is plural. If the reason Elohim is used of the true God is to say He is more than One, then, plural verbs would have to be used.

As for an example, in the first verse of the Bible, the third person masculine singular verb, "created" is used with the word Elohim. Now, since the verb is singular, it is necessary that He who did the creating is singular. In this case, the only choice left to explain the plural form of Elohim is that it relates to the fullness and intensity of the many majestic attributes of the one true God. Other examples of plural pronouns used for God can be found in Genesis 1:26; 3:22; 11:7; Isaiah 6:8.

So, in conclusion, although God (Elohim) is in plural form, it does not indicate that God is more than One. Although this word can mean more than one, if it was intended in this way here, the connecting verb would also have to be plural. In these Scriptures, however, the verb is singular indicating that the word Elohim who is speaking is One in number.

Microsoft Word refers to an editable format that allows a user to edit the text by using a number of features. This application is word processing software released in 1983 as Multi-Tool Word. It was first released for Xenix Systems. It is a constituent of the Microsoft Office system. A user can also deploy the Word as an independent program. The latest versions are Word 2008 and 2010.

Later versions of Word equipped the user with easy desktop publishing operations such as inserting images to the document. There are other attributes added to the application like multilingual support, translation, document comparison and collaboration over the years.

Word 2000 introduced a modification which was a clipboard holding multiple objects at a time. Word 2001 acquired a feature set of Word 2000. Word 2002 had similar features as the Word 2000. The new addition was an attribute called the 'Task Panes'. These 'Task Panes' provided an easy and quick control over many features that were earlier available in modal dialog boxes. Another new facet of this version was the disabling of Office Assistant.

Information technology world introduced Word 2007 after many revisions and improvements. This release introduced many changes that include a new XML-based file format as well as a redesigned interface. It also utilized many other changes like a bibliographic management and an integrated equation editor. Word 2008 and 2010 introduced enhanced features like visual effects and much more.

PowerPoint Presentation Secrets That I Learned From My Elementary School

My elementary school days were not dull and I've gained much priceless experiences from it; particularly my presentation skills - like most newbie, I remembered my first time presenting in front of the students, it was terribly awful and raw that I can hear sounds of students yawning and disengaged with my presentation. I barely remember what was I presenting but I would normally receive criticisms or feedback from teachers (or friends) about my presentation and that was indeed the hardest part to endure. Now, these criticisms have turned into "secrets" which is the core of creating the best PowerPoint presentation.

What is the "secrets" that I learned from my elementary school days?

Back to my elementary school days, I remembered that I had to list out the important points on the (dark green colored) blackboard. Obviously, poorly written points - perhaps illegible and size-small hand writing on the board is hard to read. These points are meant for the audience - not the presenter. Same applies to your PowerPoint slides; the points that you want to convey to your audience - it has to be reasonably big enough for your audience to read.

You'll get several complaints if you use fonts are illegible and hard to read - it's not a good excuse because there are several fonts available to use.

It doesn't mean using "fancy" fonts able to capture your audience's attention. One thing that matters most is that the fonts that you choose are readable at the first place. Your message has to be short and simple in which your audience take less time to read and focus on your speech presentation.

Besides that, I had to learn to speak loudly and utter my speech presentation as clear as possible. Basically, a speaker has to use his own tone - there's no need to develop a fake accent if you don't really have one. If you're worried about your intonation problems - one thing you need to do is speak slowly and control your nervousness when you're facing your audience.

In contrast, when you speak too fast if you've intonation problems, you would expect getting bad rapport from your audience and this can actually affect the whole presentation regardless how good the contents of your presentation are. At times you need to elaborate points that are lengthy; you need to pause for awhile before you proceed elaborating further. For instance, imagine that you're in a singing performance and you have lack of breathing skills, you would expect the outcome could be either:

· You could be singing out of tune or tempo

· You could find it hard to continue singing

Always remind yourself to give yourself some time to breathe in before you continue elaborating your points. Furthermore, your speech accuracy will unlikely to falter as you've some ample time to think or recall what you need to say.

Apart from that, most school projects had certain deadlines. Some projects required presentation and I had to allocate some time to prepare for my presentation. Therefore, time management is crucial in order to get things done the right way. My biggest mistake back then was that I didn't allocate time for improvising my speech presentation. What's more, the first half of the tool's name can make life so much simpler for Pete in producing his presentation; it is, as it says, smart, so you can spend time on more pressing issues. Once the style of your diagram has been chosen, PowerPoint automatically fits your text into image, adjusting size and positioning to fit. So, where Pete is forming a SmartArt flow chart to illustrate the development process, all he needs to do is to put the text items into a list, and the software will do the rest, making sure that each point is in its right place in the chart. And if there's an item that Pete particularly wants to highlight, he can alter colours and shapes for that item independently of the rest of the chart - or he can enlarge it, and PowerPoint will automatically adjust the sizes of everything else in the chart to make sure that it all continues to fit. Pete can then, simply by clicking one button, animate the chart, so that each step can fade in as and when he wants it to.

In a situation like Pete's, a presentation that is as involving as it is informative can make the difference between success and failure, between moving your business up to a new level or seeing it slide backwards. Given the versatility of PowerPoint, it would seem neglectful not to make the most of it, and of the advantages it can give your enterprise. Overall, it is okay. I got a new PC that came with MS Office Pro but I didn't need all the features and it was expensive. I got this one. However, I have to uninstall the Pro before I could install this one. It is just stupid! Someone told me one can just enter the new product key and it would activate the ones that installed/came with my new laptop. I think I will download the free upgrade of MS Office 2010.
